HERE COMES THE INDIAN SAMURAI
Actor Allu Arjun took sword fighting classes to play the role of a fearless warrior
P Sangeetha
He is the hottest property in Tollywood, the actor who makes women go weak in the knees, the dashing hero who dances like a dream and spews powerful dialogues with a punch.Producers consider him a safe bet and audiences line up to watch his histrionics on screen.
Allu Arjun,Tollywood heartthrob,is back in action again, this time with one of the most anticipated films of the year,Badrinath. This is the most important film in my career and the most expensive one in the history of Telugu cinema, says Arjun when BT caught up with him during his recent visit to the city.I play an Indian Samurai in the film, which is loaded with action scenes.I took sword fighting classes to sharpen my martial skills and we shot the stunt sequences in Vietnam.
Arjun, who is fondly called Bunny,is hoping that this movie will make box office history with its mega-budget project,as his last two releases Varudu and Vedam, did not rake in the moolah at the BO.But this film is really special and we are expanding horizons by releasing simultaneously in Telugu and Malayalam, says the actor who is a rage among Kerala audiences too.
He adds,The film is directed by VV Vinayak, who gave me one of my biggest hits,Bunny.Tamanaah plays my love interest and Keeravani has scored the music.Prakash Raj,Kelly Dorjee and Brahmanandam have pivotal roles in the film.
With his cousin Ram Charan Tejs Magadheera, the biggest hit of the year in Tollywood, creating a flutter at the box office, comparisons are bound to happen.A film like Magadheera releases once in a decade. Its a reincarnation tale replete with elements of fantasy. But the story of Badrinath is contemporary and is very different from Magadheera. Its unfair to compare both, says Arjun.
Prod him about the rumours that the hot and happening cousins Ram and Arjun are going to do a film together and he shoots back. They were just rumours. We will definitely work together, provided we get a mind-blowing script,he clarifies.
With a number of Telugu films being dubbed and remade in Tamil, will Arjun try his luck in K-town as well I would love to do a straight Tamil film. But Kollywood is a new market and I would prefer to avoid the risk.I would like to opt for a bilingual Telugu and Tamil movie instead, he says.
But will he be able to make a mark there Well,I was born and brought up in Chennai but venturing into films there is a different ballgame altogether.I will have to wait and watch, he signs off.
THE BIGGEST COMPLIMENT
The actor was delighted by the love and affection showered on him by his fans on his recent visit to the city. The audience of Karnataka has always loved my films and appreciated my performances. And to top it all, superstar Rajinikanth once told me,You are a big craze in Karnataka. I was dumbfounded.I consider this compliment coming from the icon of craze himself as the best in my life, says Arjun.sangeetha.p@timesgroup.com

The demi god status mana Tollywood heroes enjoy is to be seen to be believed. And Junior NTR's wedding on Thursday night was the biggest case in point .
The actor got married to Lakshmi Pranathi in the presence of over 15,000 guests, 12,000 of which were just his fans. An estimated Rs 18 crore was spent on this high profile wedding held at Hitex grounds.
The wedding, which was telecast live on all regional channels, was set to a background score that was specially composed for the occasion by some of his biggest fans. Vasantha Venkat and Amaraneni Ramakrishna penned a song which went something like 'Kalyanam, kamaneeyam... Nandamuri Vaari Inta Pelli Sandhadi...' The song even went on to refer the bride as 'Bangaru Lakshmi Pranathi...' Music director Arjun composed the tune and playback singers Geeta Madhuri and Krishna Chaitanya lent their voices for it. "I am a lyricist, who is one of NTR's biggest fans. I dedicate this song that I composed to NTR lovers all over the world. I'm making this song available to them online," Venkat informed.
The NTR mania doesn't end there. It was a wedding for the fans all the way. Live, minute-to-minute updates were posted on "www.nandamurifans.com." Everything from videos of NTR's residence, the bride's house and the wedding sets to details about expensive gifts given by fans, the VIP list and the food served were posted promptly by fans on the site.
KVA Ramreddy, an NTR fan from the East Godavari district, specially designed wedding coconuts and sent it to NTR. G S Bhagawan from Mandapeta in the same district, got an opportunity to compere the wedding. State wide NTR fans association gifted a huge portrait of Lord Venkateswara Swamy to their favourite star on the eve of his wedding. The portrait embedded with American diamonds was specially designed by craftsmen at Tanjavur over 20 days. While a few fans were dancing in celebration and enjoying the food, most spent their time capturing the celebs on their cellphone cameras, when they walked into the venue red carpet-style.

Times Of India Article On Maveeran
Written By Srikanth on Tuesday, 26 April 2011 | 07:23
All set for Kollywood!
Ram Charan Tej tells CT that he’ll do a Tamil film by the end of the year
Sreedhar Pillai
The fastest rising star in Tollywood, Ram Charan Tej, son of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi, is all set to debut in Tamil. His blockbuster Magadheera, the fantasy action drama directed by hit maker S S Rajamouli, is being dubbed in Tamil as Maaveeran and releasing in May. The film, which won prestigious awards, is considered to be the biggest hit in Telugu as it grossed nearly 118 crore, making it the only film in Tollywood to collect more than 100 crore!
At the star-studded audio launch of the Tamil version that took place in Chennai recently, Kamal Haasan welcomed Charan to Tamil cinema and said if there was more fusion between Tollywood and Kollywood, it would become the biggest film industry in India. Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam was all praise for the technical finesse in Magadheera.
The soft-spoken Ram Charan Tej, speaking exclusively to CT, said, “I grew up in Chennai where I did part of my schooling. I can understand and speak in Tamil. I always wanted to come back to Chennai and watch my film in a popular multiplex. Now, I’m thrilled that Maaveeran will be releasing big in May.”
The dubbed movies of Charan’s dad, Chiranjeevi, have usually done well at the Chennai BO. Reveals Charan, “My dad has always wanted me to do Tamil films. Actually, it was his idea to release the dubbed version in Tamil. Allu Aravind, my uncle and producer of the film, ensured that it was done well. I’m sure Maaveeran will work as it tells the story of romance and valour, packaged with a lot of emotion and sentiment. S S Rajamouli has packaged it perfectly as a roller-coaster ride with all the essential mass elements.”
The actor feels that Tamil film audiences are large-hearted and love watching movies that are different. The fans in Andhra, he states, love good content and support a movie irrespective of the star value, something that has made Tamil stars like Vikram and Suriya popular. Concludes the actor, “Ultimately, it is content that matters. Thanks to the success of Tamil stars in Andhra, our cinema has improved. Similarly, I feel Tamil cinema will give a new market to Telugu films when they get dubbed. However, towards the end of the year, I will definitely be doing a straight Tamil film with a noted director.”
